UF Student Financial Affairs Loan Information

Federal Verification

Federal verification is the process UF uses to confirm that the data reported on your FAFSA is accurate. UF has the authority to contact you for documentation that supports income and other information that you reported.

Go to ONE UF to check your 16-17 status page. If any documents are listed, follow the instructions and mail/fax/bring them to Criser Hall to complete verification requirements. Note that this is a random selection process.

How to check your financial aid status.

Federal Direct Loans

You will be able to accept your student loans at ONE.UF starting the last week of July. All documents on your Aid Status page must be processed in order for your loans to post.

UFCD participates in the Federal Direct Loan Program which includes the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan and the Federal Direct PLUS Loan.

UFCD students are professional students eligible for increased Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan limits. At this time, as a UFCD student you are eligible to receive $47,167 in these loans per financial aid year (Fall-Summer). Any unmet need can be covered by Federal Direct Grad PLUS loans. During your final year as a DMD student you will only be eligible for $40,500 in Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan because your financial aid year is only Fall-Spring.

There is a $224,000 aggregate loan limit on Direct loans for professional degree students. This aggregate limit will include any Stafford Loans in deferment from undergraduate or graduate studies. Most students do not hit this limit during their four years at UFCD.

INTEREST RATES: starting July 1, 2016, the interest rate for Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan is 5.31% and the Federal Direct PLUS Loan 6.31%.

Gator Aid

The University of Florida Office of Student Financial Affairs has released the 2016-2017 Gator Aid student financial aid handbook. Although the majority of the information is geared towards undergraduate students, there is very valuable information that can help you understand financial aid at UFCD.

Bright Futures

Bright Futures Scholarship recipients who graduated with a baccalaureate degree in the 2010-11 academic year (or after) in either seven semesters or 105 semester hours, and who have remaining hours and time left on their program, and wish to pursue graduate study, may apply the unused portion of their FAS or FMS award toward one semester of graduate study, not to exceed 15 semester hours. (Please read more on page 22 of the Gator Aid packet mentioned above.)

An eligible student who did not receive scholarship funds for the previous academic year (fall through spring) is eligible for “reinstatement.” Students who believe they may qualify for restoration or reinstatement should contact OSFA. Contact information is available on the OSFA Bright Futures website, http://www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org/SSFAD/bf

Grants and More

FAFSA and the UFCD Scholarship Application are the only two applications you will need to fill out in order to receive any need-based aid disbursed by UF or UFCD. This may include scholarships, grants, or loans at reduced interest rates.
